TRESemmè Fresh Start Dry Shampoo Review

Posted in Product Reviews on April 15th, 2010 by Sara Dixon – 1 Comment

TRESemme` Fresh Start Dry ShampooOily, dull hair is never a look that you want, but having to wash hair every day leads to fading hair color and a lot of effort. It’d be great to keep hair looking fresh and clean between washes, but there were almost no options for a dry shampoo under $10. Fortunately, we found that TRESemmè Fresh Start Dry Shampoo was a great way to keep our hair looking fresh and shiny for an incredible price; it’s a welcome addition to our product collection. Its unique formula uses mineral clay to soak up excess oils from the scalp. At the same time, the citrus extracts neutralize odors and give you that clean, just-out-of-the-shower feeling. Just spray on your roots, let it sit for a minute or so, and comb right through. Amazingly, it didn’t leave a filmy powder on our hair, and it smelled fantastic too! Not only did it keep our hair from looking oily between washes, but it also added volume and texture. Those of us with side-swept bangs especially loved how full and clean it kept bangs looking for the entire day. Plus, decreasing the amount of washes increases the length of time your hair color stays vibrant.

The only downside was that those of us with dark hair needed to use less because our roots looked gray if we used too much. But, when using the product sparingly, it brushed out pretty easily. In addition, a benefit to using less product is that it will last longer and save you money.

All in all we give TRESemmè’s Fresh Start Dry Shampoo a 9 out of 10 for low price, delicious smell, easy application, and silky feel. So unless you really enjoy all the work that goes into washing and styling your hair every day, we think this product is great for just about everyone.

L’Oreal EverPure Sulfate-Free Color Care System

Posted in Product Reviews on April 16th, 2009 by Kristen Jason – Comments Off on L’Oreal EverPure Sulfate-Free Color Care System

In January of this year, L’Oreal released a line of sulfate-free hair care products for color-treated hair. There are three systems to choose from: Moisture, Smooth, and Volume.  If you didn’t already know, sulfates are the detergents that clean your hair in shampoos. Unfortunately, they can strip and dull hair, which is an even bigger problem for women who dye their hair.

We tried the L’Oreal EverPure Sulfate-Free Color Care System from the Moisture line, which includes the shampoo, conditioner, and deep restorative masque (named one of Marie Claire Magazine’s 25 Best Beauty Products of the Year for 2009). The system doesn’t contain salts or sulfates that wash away color. Instead, the system uses natural surfactants (gives products the ability to remove dirt when dissolved in water) and natural botanicals.

This system was completely the opposite of what we expected. Since the products don’t contain the sulfates that are in our favorite shampoos, we expected less lather than usual, less volume, and perhaps more product build up left behind. But the shampoo actually had a great lather, and we got a salon worthy clean. Most products for color-treated hair make you sacrifice volume for protecting your hair color. But even after flat-ironing, we had voluminous, light weight hair; we can’t wait to try their Volume products. The scent of this product is soft and subtle; it smells of rosemary, juniper, and mint.

Most hair sunscreen products only block UVB rays, but this system has both UVA and UVB filters so you also have better protection from the sun. After weeks of use, our hair color is still bright and shiny. We would recommend this product for anyone who wants volume, whether or not they color their hair. And as if we didn’t have enough reasons to continue buying this product, L’Oreal created EverPure without testing on animals or using animal by products.

Garnier Fructis Style Brilliantine Shine Glistening Drops

Posted in Product Reviews on March 11th, 2009 by Kristen Jason – 2 Comments

Some people have perfect frizz-free hair, but for the rest of us, serums are a must.  Garnier Fructis Style Brilliantine Shine Glistening Drops is different than most smoothing serums because it doesn’t weigh your hair down, and it’s not greasy.  The ingredients are also a little more sophisticated.  Instead of it just a silicone base , it also has fruit micro-oils that nourish damaged hair.  Here’s how it works: you can put it on wet hair to detangle it, and on dry hair after you flat iron so the frizz monster doesn’t attack.

If your hair is very thin we don’t suggest you use this product.  The bottle may seem small, but all your hair really needs is a few drops applied on the ends of your hair.  Since airlines hardly let you bring anything these days, concentrated products are always appreciated.  Even better, Garnier has coupons for their products posted on the website!
