For years there has not been a comparable product to Estee Lauder’s best-seller, Idealist Pore Minimizing Skin Refinisher, which retails for around $46.50. So we applaud L’Oreal for coming out with a product that’s just as effective, but is available in local drugstores.
Selling at around $19.99, the Skin Genesis Pore Minimizing Skin Re-Smoother is one of the few skin care products that we’ve seen that gives instant results. Unlike many of the all natural organic products that are being launched today, L’Oreal has a more scientific approach for the Skin Genesis line. However, all the formulas are dermatologist tested to be safe and gentle.
To start with, even the packaging is advanced. Pore Minimizing Skin Re-Smoother has a unique airless pump, which protects the formula. It also doesn’t hurt that the tube is really neat looking! This product claims to tighten pores and retexturize skin, and it actually delivers. After one application, our pores looked smaller and our skin was softer.
The active ingredients are pro-xylane and hyaluronic acid (used by dermatologists for wrinkles). This product is to be used daily, underneath moisturizer. This formula absorbs in the skin very rapidly, and we found that we could not use it without moisturizer. It’s also very lightweight, so we didn’t feel like we had a lot of product on our skin.

When people are searching for a gentle cleanser, they usually don’t think to go to product lines that are targeted to teens with acne. However, Clearasil’s StayClear Skin Perfecting Wash is the gentlest exfoliator we’ve ever tried. The microbeads are extremely small and rounded, so you don’t have to worry about irritating your skin. Salicylic acid can be drying, but this creamy face wash also contains moisturizing ingredients so your skin can be acne free AND soft. Since this product is gentle enough for everyday use, this is our new daily face wash (luckily the bottle has a generous amount). This particular face wash also removed makeup off better than the other Clearasil face washes we’ve tried.
We’ve found mascara that isn’t so thick that it clumps but doesn’t have so much liquid that it smudges. We liked the Revlon Beyond Natural Defining Mascara creamy formula, because you can layer without clumping. This mascara also has a unique brush so you can actually comb through your lashes. The result is very natural looking; we suggest this product for when you’re going to be outside or for work.
Looking for a goof-proof way to use bold eyeliner? Try CoverGirl LineExact Liquid Liner. The compact pen and felt tip makes using liquid eyeliner a cinch. We liked the polished look it gave our eyes. You can achieve a very thin line or a bold line by changing the pressure when you apply it. What we liked the most is that the eyeliner didn’t move all day, but washed off completely with our regular facial cleanser. No special eye makeup remover needed!
When visiting the skin care aisle any drug store, you’ll see that you have to choose between mild cleansers and harsh products for acne. We were on the hunt for something that would destroy acne, but not our skin in the process, and came across Zapzyt Acne Wash.
Lip gloss never tasted so good! We tried Covergirl Wetslicks Fruit Spritzer in Plum Splash and liked the subtle fruit flavor. This gloss is fun but effective; it contains botanicals that improve lip condition over time.
The effort you have to make to get a bit of color without making yourself vulnerable to skin cancer can be daunting. You need to apply sunscreen 30 minutes before heading outside, and then apply sunscreen every 2 hours to be protected. A great alternative is Neutrogena Sun Fresh Sunless Lotion. While we admit that this won’t give the dramatic results of a spray tan, we appreciated that it didn’t turn us that orange muppet color that some lotions are guilty of. Sun Fresh Sunless lotion also has a grapefruit nectarine fragrance, which is refreshing to those who can’t stand the smell of self-tanner.
